Ronald Hurley

Stanfordville — Surrounded by his family and friends, Ronald Hurley, 65, passed away at home on Dec. 19, 2006, after a valiant fight with cancer.

Born Jan. 6, 1941, in Sharon, Mr. Hurley was the son of the late Florence Dorothy (Hanley) and James Thomas Hurley. He was a lifelong resident of Dutchess County.

On Aug. 30, 1986, he married Patricia Bancroft, who survives him at home.

Mr. Hurley was a member of Local Laborers 1000 and was well known in the area as a highly skilled concrete builder. He worked for many constructions contractors on many projects in the Hudson Valley and was sought after for the quality of his work.

He was also well known for his love of sports and his support of several teams in local leagues, many going under the name of The Corvettes. He was proud that he had pitched in various local softball leagues for 50 years. He was an avid bowler and basketball player. He supported Marist Red Fox basketball for more than 25 years.

As the name of his sports teams implied, Mr. Hurley was also proud of the Corvettes that he owned through the years, attending many car shows and often winning prizes for his cars.

Mr. Hurley was a loving and generous husband and father.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his three daughters, Danielle, 21, and her mate, Matthew McGhee of Stanfordville, Meghan, 18, and her mate, Frank Galizia, Chelsie,16; and a son, Christopher, 3; a granddaughter Juliana "Pudgy" McGhee; two sisters, Helen Killmer and her husband, Frank, of Millbrook and Joan Hurley of Millbrook; and a brother, James Hurley and his wife, Shirley, of Stanfordville. He has several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews that join his large family in this loss.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Dec. 23 from the Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia.

Interment services followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Paige George Literacy Foundation, 3036 East Church St., Pine Plains, NY 12567; or the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Drive, Kingston, NY 12401; or the Ronald Hurley Scholarship Fund for a graduating senior at Stissing Mountain High School, c/o Peck & Peck Funeral Home, P.O. 15, Pine Plains, NY 12567.
