Rosemary McGhee

PINE PLAINS — Rosemary McGhee passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Oct. 2, 2018. She had just celebrated her 68th birthday. 

Rosemary was predeceased by her mother, Anna Leighton; her father, Frank Forrest; her stepfather, George Leighton; her brother, Alfred Forrest; and her brother-in-law, William McGhee. 

Rosemary moved from Brandon, Vt., to Pine Plains at the age of 17 to be with the love of her life, Thomas McGhee. 

Thomas survives at home in Pine Plains; they were married for 50 years. 

Rosemary is also survived by her four children, Thomas Mcghee Jr. and his wife, Karen, Lynn Murphy and her husband, Craig, Lori McGhee and Lisa McGhee; six grandchildren, Dana, Ryan, Alyssa, Gwyneth, Hunter and Meridyth; her beloved sister, Patricia Morrison and her husband, Leonard; her brother-in-law, John McGhee; her sister-in-law, Barb Forrest; four nephews, Alfred James, Mark, Leonard Jr. and Shawn; and her beloved cat, Sally. 

Rosemary loved her family, loved cooking and baking for everyone, and enjoyed making crafts. 

Her door was always open and everyone always felt welcomed in her presence.

A funeral service was held on Oct. 8, from the Peck & Peck funeral home, the Rev. Carol Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.

SHARON, Conn. — After 20 years as a magazine editor with executive roles at publishing giants like Condé Nast and Hearst, Meredith Rollins never imagined she would become the creative force behind a military history podcast. But today, she spends her days writing about some of the most heroic veterans in United States history for “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage,” a podcast produced by Malcolm Gladwell’s company, Pushkin Industries.

From her early days in book publishing to two decades in magazines and later a global content strategist for Weight Watchers, Rollins has built a long and varied career in storytelling.

Salisbury honors veterans in snowy ceremony

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.
