Ruth Elizabeth (Emerson) Robinson

NORTH CANAAN — Ruth Elizabeth (Emerson) Robinson, 93, formerly of Brewster, Mass., died May 7, 2009, at Geer. She was the wife of Alfred Robinson, whom she married on June 21, 1941.

Mrs. Robinson was born on Nov. 3, 1915, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of the late Sarah (Feathers) and Horace Emerson.

She was a 1933 honor graduate of Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Mass.

She worked for six years in tabulating in the office of Wood Worcester Mill in Lawrence. She lived in Methuen, Lawrence, Lynnfield and Melrose, Mass.  She moved to Brewster, Mass., when Alfred retired from GE.

She traveled with her husband throughout Canada and the United States.  

She was a member of Brewster Baptist Church in Brewster and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Chatham, Mass. She loved the outdoors, gardening, her family, walks with her husband and their ice cream outings.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one sister, Virginia McCabe Roache of Portsmouth, N.H.; a daughter, Sally A. Ford and her husband, George K. Ford; and a daughter-in-law, Jean B. Robinson; four grandchildren, Laurel Caliendo, Earl Dakers, Sarah Robinson and Scott Robinson; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Clayton Caliendo and Trevor and Chloe Dakers.

She was pre-deceased by a son, David E. Robinson, and a sister, Eleanor Emerson.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Monday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at the North Canaan Congregational Church in East Canaan. All other services are private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Senior Center of Brewster, c/o Gene Sears, Brewster, MA 02631.

The Kenny Funeral Home in Norfolk,  has charge of arrangements.

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.

North Canaan gives gratitude to veterans

NORTH CANAAN — Students at North Canaan Elementary School saluted servicemen and servicewomen at a Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Eighteen veterans were honored, many of whom attended the ceremony and were connected to the school as relatives of students or staff.

When longtime arts administrator Amy Wynn became the first executive director of the American Mural Project (AMP) in 2018, the nonprofit was part visionary art endeavor, part construction site and part experiment in collaboration.

Today, AMP stands as a fully realized arts destination, home to the world’s largest indoor collaborative artwork and a thriving hub for community engagement. Wynn’s departure, marked by her final day Oct. 31, closes a significant chapter in the organization’s evolution. Staff and supporters gathered the afternoon before to celebrate her tenure with stories, laughter and warm tributes.
