Sharon bridge scores November 5

SHARON — There were 10 full tables for duplicate bridge at Good Neighbors on Oct. 21.

We played three boards a round; had a “skip after five rounds, and cut off play after eight rounds in order to play only 24 boards and not 27. Many of us find that 27 boards are too many.

The average score each way was 84. The winners: For North South pairs, in first with 115 points (68.75 percent) were Trish Stimpson and Harry Hall; in second with 90.5 points (53.87 percent) were Gail Gamble and Lois Lang, and in third with 86.5 points (51.49 percent) were Cindy and Harry Rubicam.

For East West pairs, tied for first were two pairs with 102 points (60.71 percent), Barbara Griggs playing with Dick Collins and Anne Bates playing with Joan Turnure; in third with 100.5 points (59.82 percent) were Doris Reeves and Shirley Friedman.

On the following Wednesday, a blustery, rainy day, we had seven-and-a-half tables.  We played three boards a round, and used a bye table. There was a three-board sit-out for the East West players. North South players played eight rounds, or 24 boards and East West players played only 21 boards, but because they are so able, they scored as many points as the N/S guys did with 24 boards.  The computer says the average score for each was 72.

The winners: For North South pairs, in first with 96.5 points (a whopping 67.01 percent) were Ann Patton and Mary Robertson; in second with 83.5 points (57.99 percent) were Doris Reeves and Joan Turnure, and in third with 82.5 points (57.29 percent) were Carol Magowan and Seth Milliken.

For East West pairs, in first with 90.29 points (62.7 percent) were Barbara Griggs and Trish Stimpson; in second with 89.14 points (61.9 percent) were Jim Palmer and Robert Finn, and in third with 84.57 points (58.73  percent) were Kit Kellogg and Lilly Beck.
