A taste of classical music

Students in the Yale University music program performed for third-graders from the Region One School District at Music Mountain on Thursday, April 28. The annual concert is presented by Music Mountain and the Arts Fund for Region One. The quartet was made up of, from left, Igor Pikayzen, violin; Edward Tan, violin; Philo Lee, viola; and Eve Tang, cello. During a question-and-answer session, one third-grader asked the musicians how much they practice. “Not as much as I should, probably,” replied Tan. “Four to six hours a day.” Music Mountain’s Nick Gordon reminded the audience that children under 18 and accompanied by an adult always get free admission at Music Mountain.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
