Town Clerk Amerighi needs help

SHARON —Town Clerk Linda Amerighi has been looking for a new assistant since October and the search (and extra work) are wearing her out.

“I have not been able to take any sick time, I’ve literally had to come in to Town Hall sick, Amerighi said. “I also have not been able to utilize the vacation time I have earned for myself. I need an assistant to take the bull by the horns.

The assistant will work a total of 13 hours, two days a week. The ideal candidate is someone who is flexible and willing to come in on short notice and in emergencies.

“I need someone who has a good work ethic, Amerighi said. “This can be an extremely busy office and we must follow rules that are mandated by the state. The person must also be good at dealing with the public.

The assistant will be Amerighi’s righthand man, or woman, and will help her with the mountains of paperwork that must be meticulously filed and cared for. Town Hall is home to records for everything from births, deaths and weddings to real estate transactions and meeting minutes. The clerk’s office handles hunting and fishing licenses, and requests from the public for advice on pretty much every topic imaginable.

It is fascinating work, especially for someone who likes to help others, and who has an interest in history and the workings of a 269-year-old town.

“It’s a big responsibility, Amerighi said. But one that can be extremely rewarding.

To apply for the position send a cover letter and resume to Town Clerk Linda Amerighi, Town Hall, 63 Main St., Sharon, CT 06069. Amerighi requests no phone calls.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.

The weekend of Homecoming at HVRHS was packed with events including rival games under the lights, senior night, and a new take on Homecoming that moves it outside — and it wouldn’t have been possible without the students of Housatonic.

Orchestrating was no easy feat, especially considering much of the work was left up to the students.
