100 years ago —  January 1915

SALISBURY — Mr. Samuel Whitbeck is enjoying a vacation from his duties at Dickinson’s Drug store, seeing the sights in New York City and vicinity.

The ice harvest is nearly finished and at a much earlier date than for a number of years.

CHAPINVILLE — Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lloyd and children are comfortably settled in part of the Bailey house for the present.

50 years ago — January 1965

Edward R. Baker of Sharon and New York City, a vice present of Time Inc. and managing director of Time-Life International for the past 15 years, will become a member of corporate management on Feb. 1, Board Chairman Andrew Heiskell and President James A. Linen have announced.

SALISBURY — Dwight Cowles left on Jan. 4 to spend the winter in Venice, Fla., where he recently bought a cottage. Jacob Fitting accompanied Mr. Cowles and will spend a few weeks with him, to assist in opening and renovating the cottage.

FALLS VILLAGE — Firemen were called out Sunday morning for their first fire in two months. The blaze was in the brake system of a car on Route 63 which had stopped near the Earl Rush home in Huntsville. Mr. Rush put out the fire with an extinguisher before the firemen arrived.

CANAAN — Dr. Forbes S. Adam is a patient in St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

25 years ago — January 1990

Lisa and Dominick Lopane of Millerton are the proud parents of the first baby born in the 1990 Lakeville Journal/Millerton News First Baby Contest. The Lopanes’ third child, Joseph, was born Jan. 2 at 1:38 p.m. in Sharon Hospital.

LAKEVILLE — Students and faculty at Indian Mountain School have entered the future of educational possibilities with a new fully-integrated campus-wide Apple computer lab and network system.

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s girls soccer team is headed to the semifinals of the state tournament.

The Mountaineers are the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoff bracket.
