Funeral services were held this week for Romeo Botacchi, 54, and Mrs. Patricia Zinke, 25, both of North Canaan, who were killed late Sunday afternoon when the small single-engine plane in which they were flying crashed shortly after a takeoff from Canaan Airport. It was the second fatal accident at the local airfield, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Conklin having lost their lives in a freak mishap about two years ago.

Alan Eddy of Scarsdale, N.Y., who has spent many summers at the home of his mother, Mrs. A.A. Talmage at Cream Hill in Cornwall, has recently sailed a fiberglass sailboat around the world. Skipper Eddy crossed his own track in the West Indies in his 30-foot ketch Apogee after three years. He says he undertook the journey for personal satisfaction and to see much of the world by water.

With possibly one more starting assignment this year for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steve Blass beat Cincinnati in a shutout recently for his 18th win against five losses. Enjoying his best big league season, the former Regional High School pitcher is sixth in earned-run effectiveness among National Leaguers with 2.10. He is also sixth in the total number of games won and tied for second with the least number of games lost.
