75 years ago — April 1936The large cow barn on the Elmer Hosier farm went up in smoke last Sunday night shortly after 8 o’clock. The blaze was discovered by Hosier and John Hall, who was visiting the Hosier home at the time. Mr. Hamlin suffered a badly cut chin and face and concussion after an accident on his farm early last week.Mrs. William Raynsford was surrounded by a dozen admiring youngsters at Factory Pond last Monday morning as she expertly showed the small fry how to cast and helped untangle some troublesome backlashes. Fishing must have been good. Several youngsters passed the Journal office proudly toting impressive strings of trout.25 years ago — April 1986CANAAN — Melissa (Missy) Bartlett, 10-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Bartlett of Church Street, has been selected as the 1986 Connecticut State Poster Child for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
