‘Hate Has No Home Here’

MILLBROOK — A group of roughly 40 people gathered in front of Canoe Hill restaurant on Sunday, Oct. 13, to send a message to the community that “Hate Has No Home Here.”

Organized by Debbie Wright, it was a chance to discuss the recent spate of signs found posted on poles in Millbrook with messages from white supremacy groups. Signs, buttons and bumper stickers were given out this past weekend, with peace messages in blue and red, as this was totally a non-partisan event.

The Rev. Thomas Fiet, from Lyall Memorial Federated Church, and Washington town Supervisor Gary Ciferri both had short messages to share, as did Jodi Miller of the Dutchess County Commission on Human Rights. Among the many who attended were Village Trustees Tim Colopy, Kevin McGrane and Mike Herzog. Town Justice Betsy Shequine, County Executive candidate Joseph Ruggiero and County Clerk candidate Kenya Gadsen, all running in the upcoming election, were present.
