Darius B. Smith


NEW HARTFORD — Darius B. Smith, 84, son of Harry Monroe Smith and Mary Bullock Smith, died Dec. 8, 2006. He had resided for the past 22 years at the Connecticut Veterans’ Home in Rocky Hill.

Born in Winsted April 17, 1922, Mr. Smith graduated from The Loomis School and New York School of Interior Design. He was a member of North Congregational Church and past grand master of the Amos Beecher Lodge 121, A.F. & A.M. He served in Europe with the military police of the U.S. Army during World War II and he was employed by Brown Thompson’s and G. Fox & Co. in Hartford for more than 25 years as an interior designer for homes.

Mr. Smith is survived by a sister, Harriett S. Williams of Torrington; a brother, H. Monroe Smith of New Hartford; and a niece and nephew.

Montano-Shea Funeral Home, New Hartford, is in charge of arrangements.

Burial was to be private at the Village Cemetery in New Hartford. A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be sent to the North Congregational Church, 17 Church St. North, New Hartford, CT 06057.

Man, 60, dies in single-car crash on Route 272 in Norfolk

Norfolk fire and ambulance crews responded to a one-vehicle crash on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

NORFOLK — A 60-year-old Oregon man is dead after a single-car crash Friday, Nov. 14, according to Connecticut State Police.

Kevin Scott, of Portland, was driving a Ford Escape southbound on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) when he exited the roadway while negotiating a curve and struck a utility pole. The Ford rolled onto its side and the airbags deployed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no passengers in the car.

WINSTED — Holy Cross High School won 36-20 against the Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team Saturday, Nov. 15.

The hard-fought contest was won in the air. Holy Cross QB Brady Lombardo completed 16/31 passes for 309 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.
