Family Fitness Factory: gym opens in Millerton

MILLERTON — Maria Tamburrino and Chad Breyette have opened the Family Fitness Factory at the Thompson Plaza in the space formerly occupied by North East Fitness and Wellness.

The renovated facility has “something for everyone” from adults to seniors to teenagers, according to gym spokesman Chris Mayville. Exercise equipment includes Nautilus, cardio, treadmills and stationary bikes. On-site massage therapy is also available.

Classes can be purchased separately or included in the overall cost of membership. Some of the offerings will include Zumba, indoor cycling and HIIT circuit training.

There are showers, locker rooms and dry saunas.

Mayville said the gym is the brainchild of a small, diverse group of individuals who had been working out together “boot camp” style in Eddie Collins Park from the end of July to mid-October. Tamburrino “decided to take the leap and sign a lease” for the facility, which she will run with the help of Breyette and members of her family.

He noted, however, “There were about eight to 10 of us who wanted to continue motivating one another and holding each other to some level of accountability. That’s where this all stems from.

“Maria wants to keep that going and apply it on a larger scale to more people.”

Tamburrino said she hopes the facility will have a family feel that will echo the essence of that original park group.

Tamburrino noted her particular interest in getting teenagers to come to the gym.

She stressed, though, that it is not a “drop-off” facility. Because of insurance, members from 13 to 17 will need to be with their parents, but she said there will be  “youth classes and youth training.”

“It may be a slow start with the youth but we have some great instructors coming,” Tamburrino  said. Some of the classes she hopes to offer will include mixed martial arts with kick boxing and boxing and down the road some other classes including a Mommy and Me.

“We’re starting out small and we’ll see how things go,” she explained. “We’re a work in progress. If there’s something people are looking for, something they would like from us, we want them to come and tell us.”

Family Fitness Factory is open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other details such as class offerings and costs are available at Family Fitness Factory on Facebook.
