Hey, that's my cat Cyrus!

SHARON — The mystery of “Roadie, the cat found literally in the middle of Jewett Hill Road by Anne and Charlie Hepner, has been solved.

Last week’s Lakeville Journal article (“Affectionate feline saved from cat-astrophe) told the saga of the aged gray cat found by the Hepners near their Sharon home. The article featured a photo of the cat, and described some of its medical conditions, as well as its affectionate nature. The Hepners were hoping to find the original owner but were prepared to adopt the cat if no one stepped forward.

Last Wednesday, as paper copies of The Lakeville Journal were being delivered to area retailers, Associate Editor Jennifer Kronholm updated The Journal’s page on Facebook, an Internet networking site. She posted two photos of the cat and a couple of paragraphs excerpted from the story written by this reporter.

That’s when Rob Peters saw his cat, who had been missing for two weeks.

He posted a comment under the photo, saying, “He’s my cat, Cyrus, followed by his phone numbers at work (he is the chef and owner of The Woodland restaurant in Lakeville) and home.

Peters said that he feared Cyrus (an outdoor cat before he ran away) had wandered off to die.

“I’m going to have to keep him enclosed in the house now, Peter said. “The Hepners were so nice. They gave me all of the special senior cat food they purchased for him.

The 18-year-old cat, who is now totally blind and deaf, used to reside at The Woodland.

“But he used to stay in the driveway all the time and cars would have to swerve around him, so I had to bring him home with me, Peters said. “I am so glad to have him back. He’s a good cat.

Indigo girls: a collaboration in process and pigment
Artist Christy Gast

In Amenia this fall, three artists came together to experiment with an ancient process — extracting blue pigment from freshly harvested Japanese indigo. What began as a simple offer from a Massachusetts farmer to share her surplus crop became a collaborative exploration of chemistry, ecology and the art of making by hand.

“Collaboration is part of our DNA as people who work with textiles,” said Amenia-based artist Christy Gast as she welcomed me into her vast studio. “The whole history of every part of textile production has to do with cooperation and collaboration,” she continued.
