Ruth (Sand) Lundgren

NORFOLK — Ruth (Sand) Lund-gren, a resident of Norfolk since 1952, died at home on Sept. 3, 2007, at the age of 95. She was the widow of Milton F. Lundgren.

She was born in 1911 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Emma and Herman Sand. After graduating in an accelerated program from high school, she attended the U.S. Secretarial School in New York City and then worked as a legal secretary in a patent law firm.

In 1939 she married Milton F. Lundgren and devoted her life to being a homemaker. Mr. Lundgren died in 1994.

She had two sisters, Victoria and Gladys, as well as a brother Robert, who predeceased her. As part of her church membership, she sang with her sisters in churches around New York as The Sand Sisters Trio. Throughout her life she was active in churches, most often as a Sunday school teacher. Recently, she was a member of the Valley Community Baptist Church in Avon.

She is survived by her two sons, Paul of Basking, N.J., and Dwight of King of Prussia, Pa.; two grandsons, Peter and Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, Avery and Aidan.

A graveside service will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 7, 11 a.m., at the Center Cemetery in Norfolk. Memorial contributions may be made to the Torrington Hospice Team, 62 Commercial Blvd., Torrington, CT 06790. The Kenny Funeral Homes,  Norfolk, has care of arrangements.
