Tourism is in-season at McEnroe Farm

MILLERTON — Dutchess County Tourism (DCT) launched a newly redesigned website, www.dutchesstourism.com, in conjunction with a new marketing campaign, “Simple and Sophisticated, You Deserve Dutchess.” The campaign includes new signage placed throughout the county at 21 tourism information centers, including one at McEnroe Organic Farm on Route 22 in Millerton. According to DCT, “the website can be easily accessed by visitors through a number of QR codes on new signage ... or right from the cover of the Dutchess Tourism Travel Guide.” Listed will be places to eat, play and stay by town, village or city. Farm owner Ray McEnroe said he was pleased his operation was chosen as one of the locations for the tourism center.“I think it’s very important [to promote tourism],” he said, adding McEnroe’s offers farm tours and educational programs to draw visitors to his business. “Any time there’s a new way to get new customers it’s super important.”More than 4 million visitors came to Dutchess County in 2011, up 3.5 percent from 2010. Molinaro told those gathered at the unveiling of the new sign at McEnroe’s on June 22 that he “promised Eastern Dutchess [the county] wouldn’t forget you existed,” and that the placement of the tourism sign at the popular organic farm was a testament to that promise.“The tourism trade continues to grow in Dutchess County,” he said, adding that tourism has the highest return on the smallest investment. “Dutchess is continuing to see growth in tourism. For every $1 spent we see $7 in a ripple effect.”
