Winsted cops stuff cruisers with toys for children

WINSTED — The Winchester Police Department held its 11th annual “Stuff A Cruiser” toy drive on Saturday, Dec. 15.The department held the drive at two different locations throughout the day: in front of TD Bank at Ledgebrook Plaza and in front of CVS.The officers who participated in the toy drive stuffed their police cruisers with toys donated by shoppers. The items went to The Salvation Army, which distributed the toys to local families in need with children.“We got quite a few toys thanks to them,” organization volunteer Cindy Wright said. “They filled a police cruiser and their police van with plenty of toys. It helped us out a lot. There are lot of children in Winsted with parents who are out of work and lost their jobs.”Police Chief Robert Scannell spent time in front of CVS with other fellow officers collecting toys.“Christmas is all about children,” Scannell said. “I think that the response from the community for our toy drive has been great.
