Home items large and small at Chestnut

KENT — The holiday season is upon us, and with its arrival comes the perpetual quest for holiday gifts. Chestnut Woodworking, having opened up its storefront in The Kent Barns just over one year ago, features unique items to suit every taste.

With its main office in Cornwall, owner Bob Friedman started the company more than 30 years ago. Chestnut Woodworking specializes in antique lumber, stocking chestnut, oak, pine and hemlock, among others.

“We mill, install and finish our antique lumber as flooring, countertops, mantles, barn siding and the like,” he said. “We also carry hand-hewn beams that we have used in a variety of applications.”

Friedman’s partner, Gina Olson, helps manage the business. She has brought in a variety of goods and wares that are for sale at the Kent store.

“We have primitive antiques, eco-friendly home decor items that are sourced worldwide from fair trade companies in addition to locally made pottery, jewelry, photographs and metalwork,” Olson said.

Rustic Christmas ornaments displayed on the Christmas tree are also for sale.

“We have more in our inventory than can be displayed on the floor, so if you are looking for something, come in and ask.”

The store also offers a selection of doTerra essential oils and diffusers, and teaches classes at the store on the uses and benefits of essential oils.

The Chestnut Woodworking store in Kent is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
