New gym muscles into town

MILLERTON — If getting fit was part of your New Year resolution, don’t despair. There is still hope, thanks a new fitness studio in town. Tayfun Berberoglu’s newest venture, South Center Fitness-Millerton, opened its doors to the public on Dec. 28, 2015.

An experienced fitness instructor at a spa and resort in Massachusetts, Berberoglu said this is his side project.

“It’s kind of a hobby for me. I always wanted to try to do something like this,” he said.

He added that this is his first time owning a business. He decided to open his first fitness studio undertaking in Millerton “because there is a lot of energy there.”

The cozy studio features equipment such as an elliptical machine, several spin bikes and a rowing machine. It also offers weekly classes in Zumba, spinning, boxing and kick-boxing, among other services.

“We focus mostly in strength and cardio classes,” Berberoglu said.

He said that so far, his business is doing well, with turnout of up to 10 people or more for group classes.

The studio is open seven days a week with varying hours, with classes occurring mostly in the evenings. Walk-ins are welcomed — no prior reservation is needed, with the exception of personal training.
