Silo Ridge Field Club

As the summer season begins, we are revisiting and summarizing some of the ongoing issues that have captured our attention during the past year.

Amenia — Plans are moving forward for a resort community of 245 residential units on 670 acres of land at 4651 Route 22.

Called Silo Ridge Field Club, it will be on the site of the golf course near the Wassaic train station that has had numerous owners since it opened in 1992.

Work has already begun on the golf course, which has been redesigned by Tom Fazio.

In addition to golf, the club promises to offer hunting, fishing, riding and other outdoor activities.

In February, Silo Ridge Ventures submitted its final revised site plan for the residential portion of the property, amended master development plan and preliminary subdivision plan to the town of Amenia Planning Board.

The board determined the application complete in April and held a public hearing May 5. Many potential benefits were raised, such as job creation. And many concerns were raised, such as the impact on the viewshed

The board has now closed the public hearing and is preparing to make a determination of approval on the submittals.

The applicant must also seek approval from other involved agencies before it can break ground.

The developer is Discovery Land Co., which has built high-end golf communities around the world.
