State Police

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

Texting while driving

Kelly Maloney, 42, of Winsted was driving north on Route 8 April 6. At 1:14 a.m., state police came upon an accident after her car went off the left shoulder north of Exit 46 in Winsted. The 2004 Pontiac Sunfire sustained major damage. Maloney was not injured. She was charged with failure to maintain the proper lane and texting while driving.

DUI

Ryan Yarde, 32, of Canton, Conn., was stopped by state police on Chestnut Street in Winchester at 1:39 a.m. April 7. He was charged with driving under the influence, tinting vehicle windows with stickers and possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $2,000. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court April 21.

Arrest in arson case

A juvenile was arrested April 8 following an investigation into a fire that destroyed an unoccupied structure on Simons Pond Road in Colebrook March 8. The property owner is Richard Blitz, of New York City. The Western District Major Crime Squad developed a suspect who confessed to the crime. The juvenile was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree arson and released to the custody of a parent.

Larceny charge

Jaime Boisvert, 28, of Litchfield, Conn., was charged April 9 on a warrant from an incident on May 25, 2013, on Goose Green Road in Barkhamsted. The victim was Heather Speers, 37, of Ellington, Conn. Boisvert was charged with fourth-degree larceny. Bond was set at $600. He was to appear in Bantam Superior Court that day.

Lawn vandalized

An unknown person drove over a front lawn on Silhouette Drive in Colebrook, leaving about 20 feet of tire marks. The complainant is William Young, of that address. The vandalism occurred between 7 a.m. April 10 and 7:15 a.m. April 11. Anyone with information about this or a similar incident should call Trooper Reidy at 860-824-2500. 

Motor vehicle theft

Benjamin Riiska, 27, of New Hartford was charged April 12 after a report of a motor vehicle theft from a Main Street residence in New Hartford. The complainant was Patrick Riiska, 59, of that address. Benjamin Riiska was charged with use of a motor vehicle without permission. Bond was set at $500. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court April 21.

DUI

Bridget Walsh, 28, of New Hartford was stopped by state police on Highland Avenue in New Hartford at 5:50 a.m. April 12 for driving erratically. She failed field sobriety tests. She was charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain the proper lane. Walsh was processed at Troop L in Litchfield. Bond was set at $500. She is to appear in Bantam Superior Court April 28.
