Update on Lakeville road work

LAKEVILLE — The reconfiguration of Main Street in Lake–ville continues apace, according to First Selectman Curtis Rand.

In a phone interview on Monday, June 19, Rand said that the contractor, Mather Construction, is moving rapidly.

As of Monday morning, the crews had reached the crosswalk (by the post office), and work had begun at the stone wall at the intersection of Main Street and Sharon Road (aka routes 44 and 41).

Rand said small details crop up daily — the sidewalk height doesn’t match the curb height, for instance.

And the crews keep discovering drains and pipes that they didn’t expect.

Rand said he had heard from people concerning the bumpout between Bissell Street and the Methodist church.

He said that there is 29 feet from curb to curb at that point, which should be adequate for two travel lanes and two shoulders and will be apparent when the road stripes are repainted.
