Bombers dominate: Stissing Mountain earns high marks at Section IX Class D Championship

PINE PLAINS — Coach Jeremy Weber couldn’t have been more proud of the students on the Pine Plains varsity spring track team for their outstanding performances in the Section IX Class D Championship on Thursday, May 23.

The annual championship was held at the Faller Field Complex at Middletown High School. In addition to Pine Plains, this year’s championship had teams from Rhinebeck High School, Sullivan West High School, Tri-Valley Secondary School, Millbrook High School, Webutuck High School, Chapel Field High School, John A. Coleman Catholic High School and Eldred Junior/Senior High School.

Both the boys and girls 4 x 100 relay teams won sectionals. The girls team featured students Emily Mason, Samantha Haines and Meredith and Maddy Michetti while Joe Krimmer, Christian Aldana and Bryce and Kyle Stracher ran on the boys team. Krimmer also finished the high jump in second place and on another sectional championship team as he ran on the 4 x 400 relay team with Kieran Reilly, Alex Lopez-Reyes and Josh Bay. Meanwhile, Kyle Stracher was won the 100 meter dash and Aldana won the 200 meter dash.

Maddy Michetti finished both the 100 and 200 meter dashes in second place while Meredith Michetti tied for third place in the high jump. Sage Douglass earned second place in the pole vault and tied for third place in the high jump. Jules Losee finished the pole vault in third place while Autumn Prezzano took third place for the 100 meter high hurdles and fourth place for both the pole vault and the 400 meter hurdles.

On the boys team, Bryce Stracher finished both the long jump and the 100 meter dash in second place while Adam Hess finished the pentathlon in second place. Lopez-Reyes, Reilly, Matt Leach and Nick McPherson came in second in the 4 x 800 relay race.

The Pine Plains girls team finished the championship in second place with a total of 106.5 points while the Pine Plains boys team finished in third place with 120.33 points.

“We are so proud of our team finishes with the girls in second and the boys in third,” Weber said. “As a group, they worked so hard to accomplish this result. Many of our athletes have been training since November when winter track started and we could not be more proud of the toughness and resiliency that this group showed throughout the season.”

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s girls soccer team is headed to the semifinals of the state tournament.

The Mountaineers are the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoff bracket.
