Two great Amenia opportunities

I am writing to tell people living in Amenia/Wassaic and the surrounding area of two under-utilized opportunities for activity.

One is the Amenia Free Library’s Book Shed, which offers discarded and donated books for sale (some are free) on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon during May to October.

There are books for children, young adults and adults, mysteries, biographies, science fiction, serious fiction, nonfiction, cooking, crafts and more. Stop by and browse or pick up a gift book. Prices range from 10 cents to $2, with some special books discounted further to sell quickly.

The second opportunity is the free Arthritis Exercise Program offered at the Taconic DDSO pool, on Tuesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. Call Marietta Fairchild, who directs the activity, at 845-877-6821, ext. 3965, for more information. The exercise is gentle and the water warm and relaxing.

I hope you will take advantage of these special opportunities.

Busy Millerton

Aren’t we all fortunate to live in Millerton? Saturday, Aug. 20, our village was alive! The Farmers market on Dutchess Avenue, the Artisan Fair on Main Street and Carl Chaiet’s art show at the Moviehouse — who could ask for more?

Thanks to Marty and Jay Reynolds for hosting the successful artisan fair on their front lawn and thanks to Carl Chaiet and the Sadlons for helping the Irondale Schoolhouse.

All of this takes planning, hard work and the desire to make this village so wonderful. Kudos to you all.

Artisan Fair was a success

We thank everyone for the huge success of last weekend’s second annual Millerton Artisan Fair to benefit the North East Community Center (NECC).

Thanks to Marty and Jay Reynolds of Simmons’ Way Village Inn, who graciously donated their front lawn for the event; to the many local merchants who donated items for our raffle; the Webutuck French Club, for their lunch fare and amazing baked goods that fed the masses; the 23 local artisans who shared their work; and all the customers and browsers who filled the fair and the town throughout the day, without whom none of it would have been possible.

Many thanks to you all and see you next year!
