Drug and weapon arrest

Police arrested two people outside the Mountainside Treatment Center on South Canaan Road on Oct. 29 for alleged use of drug paraphernalia and possession of a weapon.

Police discovered Ryan Mullen Jr., 18, and Anastasia Roussis, 38, in a parked car in front of the center, stating the pair appeared “fidgety and nervous” with a glass pipe containing black residue visible in the cup holder. After searching the vehicle, police said they discovered wax paper folds containing white powder in the car and in Roussis’s purse, as well as a 5.5-inch knife.

Both were released on bond and scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 11.

North Canaan sideswipe

Two vehicles collided on Canaan Valley Road in the afternoon of Oct. 30, disabling both cars as drivers walked away unscathed, police said. Duane Wilson, 48, allegedly hit 78-year-old David Woodruffin a “sideswiping manner” as he turned westbound on to Route 44.

Both drivers stated they did not see the other vehicle before the two Chevrolets collided. Police issued Wilson a violation for improper turning.

Collision in Salisbury

On Oct. 30, two cars collided in Salisbury in front of the Salisbury Transfer Station, resulting in no injuries and minor damage to both vehicles, police said.

Salisbury resident Eric Chamberlain, aged 83, allegedly pulled out from the Transfer Station driveway as Kristofer Dow, 26, and Daniel Cibuku, 26, were in a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 44. Police issued a citation to Eric Chamberlain for failure to obey a stop sign.

Crash on Twin Lakes Rd.

Police arrived on scene in Salisbury with reports of serious injuries the morning of Oct. 24 after a Toyota Highlander veered off Twin Lakes Road, striking several wooden stakes and a tree.

Oskar Harjes, 77, drove eastbound when passenger Katherine Titus, 81, noticed they had strayed off the road, stating Harjes had allegedly lost consciousness.

EMS arrived on scene to treat both for potential neck and head injuries before transporting them to Sharon Hospital.

Police stated Harjes was conscious by the time they arrived on scene and was found at fault, but not issued any enforcement.

Tractor struck

A car struck a John Deere tractor as its driver turned left into a farm field on Route 63 in Canaan at about 10 a.m. Oct. 27, police said.

Marta Sweeney, 73, was driving north when she attempted to pass the tractor driven by Logan Whitford, 18, according to police.

Neither driver was injured. The tractor was damaged, and Sweeney’s Mercedes-Benz was disabled and towed from the scene. Police issued Sweeney an infraction for unsafe passing.

Salisbury assault

According to police, a New York woman was arrested for disorderly conduct and assault in the 3rd degree at a Salisbury residence on Under Mountain Road the evening of Oct. 26.

After arriving on scene and interviewing both individuals present, police arrested Hudson resident Anna Barbara, 31, and transported her to Troop B for processing. Barbara was issued a $2,000 bond and was scheduled for an Oct. 27 hearing at Torrington Superior Court.

Collision in East Canaan

A head-on collision between a car and a commercial truck on a bend in East Canaan Road sent one driver to the hospital by Life Star on the afternoon of Oct. 26, police said.

Aidan Figueroa, 22, was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima when it collided with a truck driven by Larry Santiago, 57, in front of Hillside Cemetery, according to police.

The Altima was totaled. The truck sustained minor damage after colliding with the car and a nearby tree.
